Sharpstown Mall was a shopping mall located in the Sharpstown neighborhood of Houston, Texas, United States. It opened in 1961 as one of the first suburban shopping malls in Houston. The mall originally had three anchor stores: Sears, Foley's, and JCPenney. During its early years, it was a popular destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment.
However, the mall started facing various challenges in the 1990s, including increased competition from newer malls and decreasing popularity among shoppers. This led to a decline in the mall's business and reputation. In 2006, a shooting incident in the mall resulted in its closure for several months, and it was eventually rebranded as PlazAmericas Mall.
In 2019, the mall was sold to a new owner, who has plans to renovate and redevelop the property. As of 2021, the mall is still operating under the PlazAmericas Mall name, with a mix of local and national retailers and a focus on serving the area's diverse community.
